Save a ChatGPT chat as Markdown

Markdown is the best format to keep an AI conversation: it's plain text, works in every notes app, and diffs nicely in Git. The copy button under each answer only copies one message, though – here is how to get the whole chat.

Copy one answer (built in)

Under each answer there is a copy button. It copies that one answer as Markdown. Fine for a snippet, slow for a whole conversation, and your own messages are not included.

Whole conversation in one file (free)

1. Install Talkmere.
2. Open the chat and click the Talkmere icon.
3. Click Markdown. A .md file is saved, named after the chat title.

Or click Copy MD to put the whole conversation on the clipboard and paste it into Obsidian, Notion, Bear or a GitHub issue.

• Each message starts with a ## You / ## ChatGPT heading; headings inside answers are shifted down so the outline stays correct.
• Code blocks keep their language tag, tables become GitHub-style pipe tables, math is kept as $…$ / $$…$$.
• Buttons, “Copy code” labels and hidden screen-reader text are left out.

Images

In the free export, images are links to where ChatGPT hosts them (those links may stop working later). With Include images (Pro), Talkmere saves a .zip with the Markdown file and an images/ folder.
