Choosing a ChatGPT folders extension
A folders extension sits inside your chats, so it is worth a two-minute check before you install one. These are the questions we asked ourselves when building Talkmere – use them for any extension.
1. Which permissions does it ask for?
On the store page, look at “Permissions”. A folders tool needs the chat sites it works on. Be careful with “Read and change all your data on all websites”, webRequest, browsing history or downloads permissions. Talkmere asks for the four chat sites, the active tab when you click its icon, and local storage.
2. Where are your folders and chats stored?
Some extensions keep your data on their own server and need an account; others keep everything in your browser. Read the privacy policy for a clear answer. Talkmere has no server: folders, prompts and the search index stay in your browser.
3. Does it load your chats in the background?
Building a search index by opening every chat can be slow on big accounts and can trigger ChatGPT's request limits. Prefer tools that index what you open or let you import the official data export.
4. Is the price per site?
If you also use Claude, Gemini or Grok, check whether Pro is per site or covers all of them. Talkmere Pro is one price for all four.
5. Is the free plan clear?
A good free plan says its limits up front (for Talkmere: 5 folders, 3 bookmarks, 3 prompts; search and Markdown export unlimited) and marks paid features before you click them.
6. Can you get your data out?
Look for a backup file for folders and prompts, and real exports of the chats (Markdown, PDF, Word). If the extension disappears, your organisation shouldn't disappear with it.
7. Does it keep working after site updates?
Chat sites change their pages often. Check the “Updated” date on the store page and recent reviews. Talkmere reads each site with several fallbacks and tells you when it used one.
Talkmere adds folders, search, bookmarks and a prompt library to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, and saves chats as Markdown, PDF or Word. Free for 5 folders; it runs in your browser – nothing is uploaded.
Questions
Do I need an extension at all?
Not always. ChatGPT Projects, pins and archive are enough for many people. An extension helps if you want nested folders, folders that mix ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, or a local full-text search.
Is Talkmere affiliated with OpenAI?
